Don’t simply improve your business processes - re-imagine and reinvent your business instead!

Their original process meant that only bi-annual publication updates were possible. In Frank Addante’s article 5 Great Ways to Completely Reinvent Your Company”, he suggests (correctly in our opinion) that the first step in reinventing your business is asking ‘why?’ Once everyone understands why the business (or a piece of it) needs re-imagining and reinventing that’s when the magic can start. Otherwise it can appear to be change for change sake, and let’s be honest we’re all to busy for that!

The other key practice we’ve discovered to be critical is the ability of the leadership group to inspire and engage everyone in the organisation by ‘challenging’ them to produce a significantly higher-level result! In our experience most people willingly accept the status quo. It seems its easier to complain about something we don’t like or know is wrong, than to change or fix it! And then, if we do decide to fix a problem it seems that we’re more likely to try to ‘improve’ existing processes or solutions rather than fundamentally re-imagining what needs to be done and reinventing how we do it!

In our experience if you’re able to make sure that everyone knows ‘why’ the change is necessary and then ‘challenge’ the people in your organisation to re-imagine and reinvent how they deliver the company’s products or services versus simply improving the process - the difference in performance you get will be extraordinary! And if you do it right, you’ll also inspire and re-energise your team.
